The wife, Darcy ( Joan Allen), discovers the horrifying secret her husband, Bob ( Anthony LaPaglia), has been hiding from her all of those years. In A Good Marriage (in theaters and on VOD today), adapted from his own novella (included in the 2010 collection Full Dark, No Stars), King takes the creepy underpinnings of the very real BTK Killer story and applies it to a thriller about a couple celebrating over 25 years of marriage. King steps out from beyond his comfort zone to extract the essence of his story and commit it to an entirely different format: the screenplay. Stephen King knows a thing or two about “a good marriage.” He’s been married to Tabitha King for over 40 years, and if it wasn’t for her dipping into the trash can to rescue a young King’s discarded draft of his debut novel, Carrie, we may have never been blessed with the most perceptive and prolific horror writer of any generation’s classic-filled output.ĭespite his staggering bibliography, it's rare that Mr. Let’s dive in.Ĭain is evil, right? He murdered his brother in cold blood because of his own jealousy. Call it a testament to human redemption or a deconstruction of religious & moral belief: it’s nothing short of remarkable. Despite it’s poignant content, it’s an engaging read because of the hidden religious elements – most of which Steinbeck is developing a commentary on. East of Eden is a treasure hunt filled with Biblical easter eggs & moral gems. Based on the Biblical story of Cain & Abel (Genesis 4), Steinbeck’s work could best be described as a parallel of the infamous tale. John Steinbeck is known for many extraordinary works, but East of Eden is something so spectacular that I struggle to understand how a fallible, self-oriented human mind could concoct it. And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be goodĮast of Eden was the first novel I ever read that forced me to question practically everything I knew to be true. The Island of Doctor Moreau is a classic work of early science fiction and remains one of Wells's best-known books. Wells described it as "an exercise in youthful blasphemy." The novel deals with a number of themes, including pain and cruelty, moral responsibility, human identity, human interference with nature, and the effects of trauma. He is left on the island home of Doctor Moreau, a mad scientist who creates human-like hybrid beings from animals via vivisection. The text of the novel is the narration of Edward Prendick, a shipwrecked man rescued by a passing boat. The Island of Doctor Moreau is an 1896 science fiction novel by English author H. The Island of Doctor Moreau at Wikisource 1896 ( Heinemann (UK) Stone & Kimball (US) ) Jasmine shares her wild secret life with the eager young man, introducing him to The Coterie organization and its charter of full male domination. In 2012, Billierosie produced the wonderfully erotic “Enslaving Eli,” which takes the point of view of another male submissive, Eli, after he falls for the wrong (or right?) girl. But those waiting to learn more about the sexual women of the Coterie can always look to the past. Light, historical, clever, and oh-so-raunchy, “Rebellious Slave” is sure to linger in your mind after reaching the conclusion, which comes all too soon. In her newest story, Reuben commits a cardinal sin against his alluring Mistress, Melissa, something she does not take lightly. It's this reversal from the norm that gives “Rebellious Slave” an edge. Here, however, the dominants are members of the cruelly sensual organization known as The Coterie, operated entirely by female dominants. As most readers of the popular sub-genre can attest, that particular role is typically left to a female. In “Rebellious Slave,” Billierosie explores the dominant and submissive lifestyle from the unique view of a male submissive. Her descriptions of musculature, pulse rates, and facial features lend an intimate understand of Reuben's physiology before we readers learn his name. While her newest contribution to the erotica genre may be short, around 30 pages or so, it packs an impressive punch. Whenever Billierosie takes on a new project, her fans sit politely in anticipation, all the while squirming inside - hot for her words of erotic passion. A different body would access different information, a different environment would provide different information (see Von Uexkull and Sebeok’s concept of the umwelt). I am unconvinced: from an embodied, ecological perspective, we acknowledge the integral role of our unique body structure and anthropogenic environment in producing our experience. So what is the relationship between human and non-human animals? De Waal argues that what we need is greater anthropomorphism, to be unafraid of describing life in human terms. Clay, puts it: “It appears that the more we look, the more similarity we find between humans and animals”. Chimpanzees appear to act according to the false beliefs of others Ravens take into account the vision of others when hiding their cache Bonobos use different vocal signals for different situations. I just like to collect her coloring books to enjoy the beautiful linework and artistry (yep, I’m a weird one…). I do have to admit, however, I don’t actually color inside them. Life As It Is is a podcast series that features Buddhist practitioners speaking about their everyday lives. In today’s episode of Life As It Is, Tricycle’s editor-in-chief James Shaheen and co-host Sharon Salzberg sit down with Hawken to discuss the Buddhist teachings that underpin his activism, the role of reverence in solving the climate crisis, and how he stays motivated in the face of burnout. After all, writes Hawken, if we want to save the world, we have to create a world worth saving. In his new book, Regeneration: Ending the Climate Crisis in One Generation, Hawken offers a model of climate activism that puts life at the center of every act and decision. In fact, Hawken asserts that if we act together, we can end the climate crisis in decades to come. But entrepreneur and activist Paul Hawken believes we have less reason to despair than we think. It can be so easy to become demoralized or even apocalyptic about the state of our planet. If you would like to support this offering, please consider donating.
